Google is expanding its generative AI experiment in Search to India and Japan. This new feature, called Search Generative Experience (SGE), uses machine learning to generate summaries of web pages, along with related images and videos. This can help users better understand topics faster, uncover new viewpoints and insights, and get things done more easily.
SGE is currently available in the US in English and Spanish. In India and Japan, it will be available in English, Hindi, and Japanese. Users can opt into SGE by going to Google Labs and enabling the AI in Search setting.
In addition to expanding to India and Japan, Google is also making it easier to find the web pages that support the information in SGE overviews. When you see an arrow icon next to information in an overview, you can click on it to see the relevant web pages. This feature is currently available in the US and will roll out to India and Japan over the coming weeks.
Google is still experimenting with SGE and is looking for feedback from users. If you have any thoughts on how SGE can be improved, please share them with Google by going to Google Search Help.
Here are some of the things that people have said about SGE:
- I’m finding SGE helpful for understanding complex topics. It’s like having a personal assistant who can summarize the information for me.
- I love that SGE can generate images and videos. It helps me to visualize the information.
- I’m glad that SGE is available in my language. It makes it so much easier to find the information I need.
Google is committed to making SGE the best possible experience for users. By expanding to India and Japan and making it easier to find the web pages that support the information in SGE overviews, Google is taking another step towards making SGE a valuable tool for everyone.
